How to Check an AI Maths Answer Before You Submit Homework

Quick answer: treat an AI answer as a draft explanation. Check that it solved your exact question, used a valid method, calculated correctly and reported the right unit.

Check 1: did it read the question?

Compare every number, sign, diagram label and requested quantity. An answer can be mathematically correct for a different number or condition. For word problems, confirm that the final value answers what was asked.

Check 2: is the formula suitable?

Write the formula from your notes first. For average speed use total distance ÷ total time; for percentage changes use multipliers; for a linear equation apply the same operation to both sides. A polished explanation can still start with the wrong formula.

Check 3: redo one key line

Recalculate the substitution and the final arithmetic yourself. Use estimation to see whether the size is sensible. For equations, put the answer back into the original statement.

Check 4: inspect units and assumptions

Look for metres versus centimetres, minutes versus seconds and square units. If the question is a diagram or photo, confirm that every label was visible. Ask for uncertainty to be stated instead of accepting an invented measurement.

A safe prompt

Try: “Solve this using my school method. Show the formula, units, one check and any assumption. Do not skip arithmetic.” Then compare the response with your textbook.

You can send a doubt to DoubtPay AI for a second explanation, but your teacher’s instructions and official marking scheme remain the final authority.
