How to Study Science and Maths in Hindi Medium and Still Score 90+ in CBSE

More than half of India’s school students study in Hindi or a regional language, yet most online help is in English. This creates a false feeling that Hindi medium students are weaker. They are not — they just need a study method built for them. Here is one.

1. Learn the English term alongside the Hindi term

In Science and Maths, questions in competitive exams and many board papers use English technical words even in the Hindi version (उदाहरण: “रासायनिक अभिक्रिया (chemical reaction)”). Keep a two-column word list per chapter: Hindi word | English word. Ten words a day is enough.

2. Understand in your language, write in the exam’s language

The concept must land first. Read or listen to the explanation in Hindi, Bengali, Tamil — whatever you think in. Then write the answer in the medium you have chosen for the exam. Understanding + translation is faster than struggling in English from the start.

3. Use bilingual resources

  • NCERT books are available in Hindi and English — read the same page in both when a term confuses you.
  • Use an AI doubt solver that answers in your language. On DoubtPay AI you can type in Hindi or Hinglish and choose the answer language — Hindi, Hinglish, English, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi or Odia. Tap “Listen” to hear the answer read aloud.

4. Maths is language-free — focus on steps

A quadratic equation is solved the same way in every language. Learn the step names in both languages (“मध्य पद विभाजन / splitting the middle term”) and practise writing every step. Examiners give step marks even if the final answer is wrong.

5. Write answers the CBSE way

  • Underline key words and formulas.
  • Draw the diagram and label it — a labelled diagram earns marks even with weak language.
  • Use points, not long paragraphs.
  • For “define” questions, write the definition + one example.

6. Read one English paragraph a day

Take the NCERT English version of the chapter you are studying and read one paragraph aloud. Over a year this builds reading speed for CUET, NEET and JEE, all of which are available in Hindi but often easier in English for options.

7. Clear doubts on the same day

Hindi medium students often keep doubts because they feel shy asking in English. Do not wait. Ask in your language — a good teacher or a good tool will answer in it.

Sample weekly routine

Day Task
Mon–Fri Chapter study + 10 bilingual words + doubts cleared same evening
Sat Solve one previous-year paper section in exam language
Sun Revise the week’s word list and doubts
